My review for Leaving Paradise:

I give Leaving Paradise 4 stars. The setting is in modern United States. The story is told in the 2 main characters’ points of view. First, you meet Maggie. Before the accident, she was popular, athletic, and desirable. After the accident, she has a permanent limp and is an outcast in her town called Paradise. Her father left her and her mother before the accident and her mother works at a diner to scrape enough money for both to live with some comfort. After a year of surgery and recovery, Maggie returns to school for her senior year. Maggie really wants to take a trip to Spain, but she might not be able to since the scholarship she was going to get was an athletic scholarship. Will Maggie get to go to Spain? Maggie is still depressed and people make her feel like she’s a  burden. She tries to block out the accident. Then there’s Caleb. He’s been in jail for the year for hitting Maggie with a car while driving drunk. He gets to return to Paradise, but it’s not like life was before the accident. His previous girlfriend, Kendra, is going out with his best friend. He’s known as an ex-con. His family can’t even stand him. But does he deserve this cruelty? Was he the one that hit Maggie? Will Maggie remember the accident? Will Maggie be able to forgive him? Maggie starts working for an elderly lady to raise money for her trip to Spain, while Caleb has to do community service by working at a construction store. What happens when both of their paths?
