My review for Promised:

I give Promised 4.5 stars. I loved it except for the ending, which I wished was written differently. The story picks up about a year later. Gaia is finally engaged to Leon, and Gaia has become the new Matrarc after the previous Matrarc died from childbirth. Gaia is having everyone move from Sylum to the Wharfon and Enclave because they need a viable water source. Gaia has to figure out a way to get the water from the Enclave and Protectorat, who is also Leon’s adoptive father, but it’ll most likely end with a great cost. Gaia doesn’t want to lose Leon so he is out of the equation in Gaia’s thought process. The Protectorat doesn’t only want Leon, but he wants Gaia, too. Will Gaia get the water? Will she be able to keep Leon safe and marry him? Why does the Protectorat want Gaia? How far will the Protectorat go to get what he wants?
